  • Detected mainly in sputum specimens of infected human
  • Eggs immature when passed in sputum (rarely in faeces)
  • Not infective to human
  • Miracidium hatching from egg is infective to snail intermediate host 
Diagnostic Features
  • Size: 85 µm x 53 µm (range: 68-118 µm x 39-67 µm)
  • Colour: Yellow to dark brown in colour
  • Shape: Oval or elongate; Slightly flattened on one side
  • Small, flat operculum
  • Thick shell; Shell is thicker at the end opposite to operculum
  • Contains an unsegmented ovum
